I had a SATA external disk damaged by an accidental power off and wanted to repair it. I downloaded DRW and attempted to use it. I did not understand that it would not actually save the files unless I had registered. This is not an unreasonable policy but it would be nice to tell people that when the program starts. After investing 3 hours and finding this out, I was diappointed and also realized that only 20% of the files could be recovered, and decided to buy another product instead, and I am very glad that I did.

First DRW does not provide much feedback during the scan process. It just has a single progress bar, and if you are working on a large disk, you dont know if it is working or just stalled. Once the scan is complete it gives a nice display and you can pick the files to restore.

The other product that I chose (GetDataBack from runtime.org) was less expensive, but found 100% of the files could be restored. Also as it ran, it showed how many sectors scanned or how many files had been processed so I knew that it was working. By default it gives a lot of feedback while it works which is nice.

I think DRW could be a good product but the developer needs to make sure that it can recover all files, and modify the user interface to provide more feedback during process.
